Tastes of Summer Writing Prompts

On the first Monday of every month, I create a few writing prompts to help you get writing! You’ll see them here each month and on Instagram @thelexiconwritingblog every Monday.

June means summer is just around the corner and I can’t wait. For me, summer means beachtime, hikes, and plenty of fresh fruits and veggies. And copious amounts of writing.

To facilitate that, here are four new writing prompts for you to get writing this month! Make like Ray Bradbury and write a short story a week!

Here we go!

  1. Write the origin story of the s’more. Make it as funny or as sad as you want.
  2. Write a short story about a lemon from seed to lemonade. Use all the senses and write in as much detail as possible.
  3. Write a story about a young girl or boy experiencing a soda shoppe for the first time. Make it historically accurate and richly detailed.
  4. Write a fictionalized account of your favorite summer memory.

Get writing friends! Enjoy the spare time of summer and fine tune your skills.

Cheers!

Music and Lyrics: Writing Prompts and Music to Get You Writing

Use music to get writing! Writing prompts and music!

With Camp NaNo in full swing, I figured I’d do a shorter post on a fairly fun topic:

Writing and music.

If you find me writing, you’ll find me listening to music. The two go hand in hand like pb&j. I know a lot of writers are like this…music has a way of evoking emotions that can inspire and motivate us writers to better convey exactly what we want to say. Somehow listening to music can make it easier to write, whether you’re writing a battle scene or a romance. Continue Reading
