September Writing Prompts

Writing and story prompts to get your writing this month! Creative ideas to help you write.

On the first Monday of every month, I create a few writing prompts to help you get writing! You’ll see them here each month and on Instagram @thelexiconwritingblog every Monday.

Happy September and Happy Labor Day! There are four Monday’s in September which means…four writing prompts! I just love the back-to-school season, even though I myself am not going back to school. It’s like New Years…there’s a chance to refresh, refocus, and redirect for the rest of the year.

Ready for some writing prompts? Here we go!

  1. Do you know the history behind Labor Day? Write a fiction short story about how the holiday came to be.
  2. Write about a new backpack’s first day at school, assisting a child or teenager through their first day.
  3. Your favorite characters show up to their first day of undergrad. Describe their day.
  4. Describe the back-to-school season with as much detail as you can.

While summer may almost be over, enjoy the last lingering touches of the season. Fall is just around the corner and I can hardly wait!

Cheers!
